Tourism in Niedersachsen

Hamburg neighbours another federal state, namely Niedersachsen. Next to Bavaria, Niedersachsen is the second largest German state according to area and offers a wide range of beautiful and interesting sightseeing attractions. Those who come to Niedersachsen in spring should not miss a trip to the Altes Land – ‘The Old Countryside’. The Altes Land is one of the largest orchard areas in Germany, and in spring the apple and cherry trees bloom, which is always a sight worth seeing. Also beautiful is the Lüneburg Heath with its enchanting countryside and beautiful old towns like Goslar and Lüneburg.

Those travelling from Hamburg to Niedersachsen should also pay a visit to Hamelin. In August the famous rat catcher can be experienced live. Also worth a trip is the Schaumburg Countryside; the Oldenburg Countryside is also ideal for a relaxed vacation.

A trip to the old university town of Göttingen should not go amiss, and you should also visit the state capital of Hanover if you are underway in Niedersachsen. A trip through Niedersachsen can also take you way up into the north of Germany. Ostfriesland and its islands, and the beautiful harbour town of Emden also belong to Niedersachsen.

Tourism in Schleswig-Holstein

There are many attractive destinations in Schleswig-Holstein, just outside the Hanseatic City. Always beautiful is for example the duchy of Lauenburg. The delightful countryside invites visitors to take a long walk or an extended bicycle tour.

The ocean is also only a stone’s throw away from Hamburg. Husum, the grey town on the sea, as the poet Theodor Storm referred to his hometown, is always worth a visit. Holstein in the east also lends itself perfectly to an excursion into Hamburg’s environs.

In summer Eutin is a pretty destination and it is not without reason that this idyllic town in Ostholstein is also known as Rose Town: in June and July rose bushes bloom everywhere in lavish splendour. Also worth a visit is the Eutin Palace, where Katharina the Great was born.
