Hamburg - The City at the river Elbe
The city centre as well as most of the city is north of the river Elbe. The Alster is an affluent of the Elbe and forms a beautiful lake in the heart of the city. The lake is divided in the parts Binnen- and Außenalster. At the Binnenalster (Inner Alster) there is a variety of shopping possibilities. The Außenalster (Outer Alster) and the surrounding green areas invite you to relax. Especially in summer you find many people taking a stroll and enjoying nature. With its 2400 bridges Hamburg has more than Amsterdam and Venice together.
Hamburg has a lot to offer for visitors: the Fischmarkt (fish market), the Cathedral, the Alster Vergnügen, the Old Warehouse District, the Thalia theatre, the exhibition “Du und deine Welt” (you and your world) just to name a few. Hamburg is a very sharbours enthusiastic city with several events like the “Holsten City Man” or the “Tennis Masters Series” at the Rothenbaum.
Worth mentioning are the many different city districts. In the districts Eppendorf, Harvestehude and Blankenese you can go shopping in exclusive boutiques and admire beautiful old houses while walking around. Next to the Elbe the district Blankenese offers wonderful views along the river.
Especially for Trendsetter and party fans Hamburg has a lot of possibilities. The district St. Pauli, Schanze, Eimsbüttel, Altona, Ottensen and St. Georg are the best places to paint the town red. There are various bars, clubs and no curfew. These districts have a special relaxed and multicultural flair shaped by students, young families, foreigners and creative artists. And of course the Kiez is the epicentre of Hamburgs night life.
Hamburg is more an overall work of art in itself than the sum of its attractions. There is a special feeling of life that surrounds the city. You can feel it while you see ships floating through a foggy harbour, when you take a night stroll along the street Reeperbahn or just walk around the city in the sun.
